Staining method for the examination of the small intestinal villous pattern in necropsy material IAIN

چکیده
Morphological and histological examination of intestinal mucosal biopsy material obtained by peroral instrumentation has made an outstanding contribution to the study and understanding of small intestinal disease. Postmortem examination of small intestinal mucosa has been unsatisfactory and disappointing, the histological sections showing in most instances such extensive autolytic changes that accurate assessment of villous structure is impossible. Portmortem autolysis of alimentary mucosa is rapid since it is so rich in proteolytic enzymes (Abraham, 1962). Recent awareness of intestinal mucosal abnormalities in conditions other than the coeliac syndrome, for example, carcinoma (Hindle and Creamer, 1965; Dymock, 1966), ulcerative colitis (Salem, Truelove, and Richards, 1964), and skin disease (Shuster and Marks, 1965) has further necessitated the development of a method for the identification of villous structure in necropsy material. Creamer and Leppard (1965) have described a method for the preparation of specimens and their examination under the dissecting microscope. In this communication we describe a further development of this technique using haematoxylin staining which facilitates the rapid identification of villous structure. Further, this has proved suitable for study by a monocular microscope and for photographic recording.

Staining method for the examination of the small intestinal villous pattern in necropsy material.
A new technique for the rapid identification of villous structure in postmortem material is described. It has been used with success for over a year and has proved superior in the authors' hands to previously described methods.

An adult female budgerigar (Melopsittacus undulatus) presented with abdominal enlargement. The condition of the bird deteriorated after needle aspiration for cytological examination. The budgerigar was euthanatized and a complete necropsy was performed. Microscopic sections were prepared and stained with hematoxylin and eosin, Gram staining, periodic acid-Schiff (PAS) and acid-fast staining. Es...

Intestinal lymphoma is frequently associated with sprue-like bowel patterns. A standardized approach to the problem is suggested.Intestinal lymphoma has been subdivided into four groups, depending on the extent of involvement of the anatomical region. Only cases with specific lesions are accepted as primary lymphoma. The villous pattern in 179 cases at necropsy with suitably preserved mucosa wa...

Capsule endoscopy is a noninvasive diagnostic method used in various gastrointestinal diseases such as Crohn’s disease and celiac disease. Immunoproliferative small-intestinal disease (IPSID) is a proliferative disorder of IgA-producing B lymphocytes [1]. IPSID has been characterized by the loss of the mucosal circular folds, a thickened, cobblestone appearance of the mucosa, and multiple sessi...
متن کاملIdentification of Intestinal Microsporidia by Trichrome Staining and Calcofluor White Methods among Kidney- Transplanted Patients in Hamadan
Abstract Background and Objective: Microsporidia is an obligatory intracellular parasite known as an opportunistic infection in immunocompromised patients. Its laboratory diagnosis is relatively difficult and modified trichrome staining is a standard diagnostic method for detection of Microsporidia. The aim of present study was to identify intestinal Microsporidia in kidney- transplanted pat...
